Memory Requirements

Very few Web Sites need more than a couple of megabytes of storage capability.   Most web pages are pretty small in size, and graphics for the Internet only require scanning at 72dpi for high resolution (plus, if graphics files are too large, you lose browsers when they have to wait for long graphics downloads).  Thus, a couple of megabytes are usually sufficient.  If you need more as your Web Site grows, feel free to use as much as you need and we will bill you for the difference!

Some hints:

• Keep graphics files small.  Scan at 75dpi or less (avoid higher resolutions, it only makes the file take longer to download and looks no better.   Graphics files should be less then 20kBytes, but NEVER over 50kBytes, if possible.   50kBytes can sometimes take a full half-minute or more to download for the typical browser!).

• Save complex, colorful graphics as compressed JPEG files to conserve on file size. Simple graphics should be saved as GIF where the number of colors is low or limited.  Frontpage can convert many different graphics files into these two types.  Test different JPEG compression qualities for best compromise.
• Use text whenever possible instead of graphics files.  Text looks better and creates smaller, quicker loading pages.
• Avoid the use of large sound files or video.  And always allow the user to turn off a sound file!
